CoDeSys Fundamentals for PLC Programmers

Despite a high degree of automation, flexibility is one of the most important challenges in manufacturing companies. It demands the integration and networking of different controls in a complex automation system. This is further complicated by the huge variety of programming software available. Differences in user-interfaces, functionality and command sets cause confusion and make mistakes more likely.

Our CoDeSys training focuses on providing candidates with a general introduction to the IEC 61131-3 Controller Development System from 3S. The course aims to demystify the hardware independent global software, by allowing the participant to learn both the CoDeSys core functionality and by using the integrated SoftPLC and visualisation package, about each programme language.

All engineering and maintenance personnel involved with control systems.

  • Overview of the standard: IEC 61131-3
  • Introduction to the CoDeSys programming environment
  • Use of the programming languages: IL, ST, LD, FBD, SFC, CFC
  • Use of visualisation

  • Using the Help function
  • Aids to trouble-shooting
  • Overview of Festo CoDeSys products

Prerequisites
Candidates must have experience in PLC programming and be proficient in at least one programming language.

Training Outcomes
On completion of this CoDeSys training course the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the scope and potential of CoDeSys
  • Create a basic simulation for each language based on the internal SoftPLC from CoDeSys and test programs
  • Create a basic visualisation
  • Select appropriate language for a specific task and combine them to a complete project
